In most cases, the dough cloth does not need to be washed. It is pre‑washed by the manufacturer and therefore has the right suppleness from the start.

If washing is necessary:
If something ends up on the cloth that must be removed (e.g. egg or fat), follow these tips:
Washing may cause lighter crease lines and slight shrinkage — both are normal characteristics of natural linen.
Too stiff? Make it softer:
If the linen still feels too stiff, soak it in water for 12–36 hours and wash again. The soaking water will turn cloudy — this is normal. The cloth becomes softer each time the process is repeated.
